Traffic control Bundaberg
In short: East Coast Traffic Control provides traffic control in Bundaberg, Bargara, Childers and Gin Gin, mobilised from our Hervey Bay depot an hour and a half south. We have worked the TMR Bundaberg-Miriam Vale Road safety upgrades at Yandaran and support council, utility and event jobs across the Bundaberg region, with plans designed to Queensland MUTCD Part 3.
- Road authority
- TMR Wide Bay/Burnett District and Bundaberg Regional Council
- Also covering
- Bundaberg Central, Bundaberg North, Norville, Walkervale, Bargara, Burnett Heads, Elliott Heads, Moore Park Beach, Childers, Gin Gin, Yandaran, Woodgate, Agnes Water
Traffic control in Bundaberg and the Burnett
Bundaberg sits at the top of our Hervey Bay depot's run and the bottom of Gladstone's, and it gets work from both. The region's traffic is agricultural and seasonal: cane haul-outs to Millaquin and Bingera during crushing, macadamia and small-crop trucks year round, and tourists heading for Bargara, Mon Repos and the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Add the Bruce Highway skirting the city to the west, the Isis Highway from Childers, and a council capital program that includes more than $4 million of federal Black Spot upgrades across Bundaberg Central, Norville and Walkervale in 2025-26, and there is steady work for crews who know the area.
What we do here is mostly TMR corridor safety work, council street and intersection jobs, utility connections and events on the coast. We mobilise from Hervey Bay, confirm the start time when we quote, and base a crew locally for anything longer than a few days.
Roads and road authorities in the Bundaberg region
The Bruce Highway, Isis Highway, Bundaberg-Gin Gin Road, Bundaberg-Miriam Vale Road, Bundaberg-Bargara Road, Childers Road and Bundaberg Ring Road are state-controlled roads under TMR's Wide Bay/Burnett District. City streets, Bargara, Burnett Heads, Childers and Gin Gin local roads belong to Bundaberg Regional Council. Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy, north of Miriam Vale, are Gladstone Regional Council.
For TMR roads we design the traffic guidance scheme to TMR format and lodge the works permit. For council roads we work to Bundaberg Regional Council's road works conditions. Bundaberg's Black Spot intersections (Burnett and Targo Streets, Walker and Maryborough Streets, Que Hee and Fitzgerald Streets) are council roads with signals, which means the traffic guidance scheme has to handle signal operation and raised crossings, not just lanes. See traffic guidance schemes.
What we have done around Bundaberg
In 2024 our crews provided traffic control on the TMR Bundaberg-Miriam Vale road safety works, part of the state and federal Road Safety Program, covering Bundaberg-Miriam Vale Road, Yandaran Road and the Monduran Road intersection at Yandaran. That is typical Burnett corridor work: 100 km/h rural road, long sight lines, cane and heavy vehicle traffic, and a scheme that moves with the works.
Our Sunshine Coast depot's reach runs north to Bundaberg for flood recovery and coastal events, including work at Bargara, and we have supported the Bruce Highway and Miriam Vale corridor from the Gladstone side. In Bundaberg the traffic control company is often the only trade on site at 5 am, which is why we staff these jobs with controllers who have done the drive before.
How coverage works for Bundaberg
We do not have a Bundaberg depot. Jobs here are mobilised from our Hervey Bay depot under Area Manager Jesse, who also runs the Sunshine Coast head office and can add crews and equipment from Maroochydore for larger jobs. Work on the Miriam Vale side of the region can also draw on our Gladstone depot under Charlotte. Your quote will say which depot is staffing the job and the confirmed start time.
For a program of more than a few days we base a crew in Bundaberg rather than driving in daily. Night works and after-hours call-outs run through the same 24/7 network as every other ECTC depot. See Hervey Bay and Maryborough traffic control and Gladstone traffic control for the two depots either side.
What to send for a Bundaberg quote
- Site address, or road name and chainage for highway and rural sites
- Whether the road is TMR or Bundaberg Regional Council (tell us the road name if unsure)
- Dates, hours, day or night, and expected duration so we can decide whether to base a crew locally
- The work and plant, and any signalised intersections or raised crossings in the site
- Whether you need a TMP or TGS designed, or already hold one
- Site contact, principal contractor and any TMR or council references
Common questions
Does ECTC have a depot in Bundaberg?
No. Bundaberg is mobilised from our Hervey Bay depot about an hour and a half south, with support from the Sunshine Coast head office and, for the Miriam Vale side, our Gladstone depot. We confirm the start time and staffing depot in the quote, and base a crew locally for longer programs.
Who approves traffic control on the Bruce Highway or Bundaberg Ring Road?
TMR's Wide Bay/Burnett District, which covers Bundaberg, the Burnett and the Fraser Coast. Bundaberg Regional Council approves local streets, including the signalised intersections in the Black Spot program. We design the traffic guidance scheme to the relevant authority's requirements and tell you which permits apply when we scope the job.
Have you worked on TMR projects in the Bundaberg region before?
Yes. In 2024 we provided traffic control on the TMR Bundaberg-Miriam Vale road safety works at Yandaran, covering Bundaberg-Miriam Vale Road, Yandaran Road and the Monduran Road intersection. Our crews have also supported the Bruce Highway and Miriam Vale corridor from the Gladstone side.
Can you cover Childers, Gin Gin and Agnes Water?
Yes. Childers and Gin Gin are on the run from Hervey Bay and are quoted as travel jobs with a confirmed start time. Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy are in Gladstone Regional Council's area and are usually staffed from our Gladstone depot. Either way you get one quote and one contact.
Can you do traffic control for a Bundaberg event or festival?
Yes. We plan coastal and regional events across Queensland and NSW and have worked events at Bargara. Event plans go to Bundaberg Regional Council ahead of the event, and tourist-season timing at Bargara and Mon Repos affects the plan. Our event traffic management checklist lists what organisers need to prepare.
