Traffic control across Queensland and New South Wales, from 13 local depots

In short: East Coast Traffic Control operates 13 depots: Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Hervey Bay, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast in Queensland, and Mid North Coast (Coffs Harbour), Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Tumbarumba and Young in New South Wales. Each is led by a local Area Manager, available 24/7, and crews travel inland from those depots to towns without a depot of their own.

How the depots work

A depot is not a postal address. It is a base with utes, cone trucks, signage, VMS trailers and the people who run them, managed by someone who lives in the region. When you call, the Area Manager for that depot confirms the crew and the plan, and the job is staffed by people who know the road.

Towns without a depot are served from the nearest one. Each town page below says which depot mobilises to it, so you know where the crew is coming from and how quickly it can be there. Queensland and New South Wales use different traffic control accreditations, and each depot staffs jobs with people licensed for its state.

Working across depots

Large or spread-out jobs draw on more than one depot. The Bruce Highway between Gympie and Bundaberg, for example, sits between the Sunshine Coast and Hervey Bay depots, and the Riverina depots at Young, Wagga Wagga and Tumbarumba share crews on flood response. If your project crosses regions, tell us and the Area Managers will coordinate. For anything that cannot wait, phone 1300 011 203 and the call is routed to the right depot.

Common questions

How do I find the ECTC depot nearest my site?

Use the map and list on this page, or open the page for the town where you are working. Each town page names its depot or the depot that mobilises to it, with the Area Manager's first name and mobile. If you are unsure, call 1300 011 203 and the call is routed to the right depot.

Do you cover towns that do not have a depot?

Yes. Each depot covers a region, not just its town. The Sunshine Coast depot, for example, works from Brisbane's north to Gympie, and the Townsville and Mackay depots regularly send crews inland to Mount Isa and the Gulf. The town pages state which depot serves each place so there is no guessing about travel time.

Are the Area Managers available after hours?

Yes. ECTC operates 24/7: call 1300 011 203 at any hour. Night works, emergency callouts and storm and flood response are staffed from the local depot, which is the point of having crews based in each region rather than sent from a head office.

Can a Queensland depot send crews to a NSW job?

Only if the crew holds NSW accreditation, because traffic controller licences are state-based and are not recognised across the border. ECTC's Gold Coast and Northern NSW depot and the five NSW depots staff NSW work with NSW-accredited people. Tell us the state and the road authority when you enquire.

Do you have depots in Brisbane, Bundaberg or Toowoomba?

Not dedicated depots. Brisbane's north is covered from the Sunshine Coast depot and Bundaberg from Hervey Bay, while the Gold Coast depot covers the southern side of Brisbane. Crews have worked in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs and as far west as Roma. Call to confirm coverage for a specific site.

Need crews on site?

Send the job and your local Area Manager takes it from there, day or night.
