Our Ventia works
In short: East Coast Traffic Control works with Ventia on powerline works through all of our depots in Queensland. About 90 percent of that work is reactive: a fault or an urgent repair comes in and a traffic crew is needed the same day. ECTC and Ventia share one goal on every job, keeping pedestrians and other road users safe around the works.

What the work involves
Ventia maintains powerline networks, and powerline work happens on and beside roads: poles in verges, conductors over carriageways, elevated work platforms parked in live lanes. Most of it cannot be scheduled weeks ahead. A storm, a fault or a vehicle strike creates the job, and the traffic control has to be there when the line crew arrives.
ECTC supports Ventia's powerline works across all of our Queensland depots, from Cairns to the Gold Coast, which is why the relationship works: whichever region the call comes from, there is a local crew.
The challenge
Our work with Ventia has been about 90 percent reactive. Reactive work is where traffic control providers usually fall down: the job is small, the notice is short, and it is tempting to send whoever is free with whatever is on the ute. We treat these jobs the same as a highway closure. Safety is always the number one priority, even on the smaller jobs.
Utility sites also tend to sit in residential streets with pedestrians, school traffic and parked cars, which need the same care as a highway lane closure.
How ECTC delivers it
Short-notice utility calls go to the local Area Manager, who confirms the crew from that depot. The common goal on every setup is simple: pedestrians and other road users kept safe around the works, and the line crew able to get on with the job.
It is long-running work rather than a single project, and it continues across Queensland.
