Scenic Highway pipeline works

Scenic Highway pipeline works, Yeppoon

In short: East Coast Traffic Control provided ongoing traffic management for the Livingstone Shire Council water pipeline project along the Scenic Highway at Taranganba, Yeppoon. The job ran over a long period and the requirements changed at each section of the pipeline, so the traffic setup had to be reworked repeatedly as the project moved.

What the job involved

The Scenic Highway is the main road along the Capricorn Coast, and the pipeline followed it through Taranganba. Pipeline construction is linear: a trench opens, pipe goes in, the trench closes, and the work moves on. Each section brings its own mix of lane width, driveways, intersections and bus stops.

ECTC provided the traffic management for the project over a long period, with crews from our Rockhampton depot, which covers Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast.

The challenge

Long jobs with changing needs are harder than big jobs with fixed needs. A plan that worked on one section did not work on the next, and the client needed a traffic provider that could respond to those changes rather than apply one layout to everything.

The highway also carries tourist and local traffic to Yeppoon's beaches, so the setup had to keep moving even when the pipeline work was slow.

What ECTC did

Our Rockhampton crews adjusted the setup as the pipeline progressed. That experience, and the flexibility to respond to the project's various needs as they came up, is what Livingstone Shire Council's pipeline required.

The traffic management ran for the length of the project, section by section.
