Traffic control in Brisbane

Traffic control Brisbane

In short: East Coast Traffic Control has no depot inside Brisbane. Jobs north of the river and in Moreton Bay are mobilised from our Sunshine Coast head office at Maroochydore; Logan, Ipswich and the south side from our Gold Coast depot. We cover power and utility works, civil sites, council streets and events across South East Queensland to Queensland MUTCD Part 3.

How ECTC covers Brisbane without a Brisbane depot

We are a regional company and we would rather say that plainly than pretend to a Brisbane yard we do not have. What we do have is two depots within an hour of the city on either side, and crews who are in Brisbane's suburbs most weeks. Our Sunshine Coast head office at Maroochydore runs the north side: Caboolture, Morayfield, Redcliffe, North Lakes, Strathpine, Chermside and down to the river. Our Gold Coast depot runs the south: Logan, Beenleigh, Springwood, Ipswich, Springfield and the Redlands.

For a one-day job that means crews travel in, start on time, and go home. For a program of work we base a crew in the city for its duration. Either way you get the same TMR compliant planning, the same ISO certified systems and the same 24/7 coordination as every other ECTC depot. If you need a yard in Eagle Farm, we are not the right fit. If you need crews who turn up, we are.

Roads and road authorities across Brisbane

Brisbane has more state-controlled roads than any regional city: the Bruce Highway and Gateway Motorway, the Pacific Motorway, the Ipswich Motorway and Centenary Motorway, Gympie Road, Beaudesert Road and the arterials in between, all under TMR's Metropolitan District. Local streets belong to Brisbane City Council, which has its own detailed road works permit process, or to Moreton Bay, Logan, Ipswich and Redland councils in their areas. Toll roads such as the Clem7, Legacy Way and AirportlinkM7 have their own operators.

For TMR roads we design the traffic guidance scheme to TMR format and lodge the works permit. For Brisbane City Council we work to its road corridor permit conditions, which are stricter on notification, peak-hour restrictions and pedestrian management than most regional councils. We check road ownership for every site before we quote, because the wrong permit is the most common cause of a delayed start in Brisbane. See permits and road occupancy.

What we have done in Brisbane and Moreton Bay

Power and utility work is the backbone of our Brisbane book. In February 2025 our crews supported essential power maintenance works in Narangba, establishing safe perimeters and managing vehicle flow around crews working near live lines. Our Ventia powerline work is mostly reactive, short-notice work that runs through every Queensland depot, and Brisbane's northern suburbs are part of that.

In March 2025 we prepared crews and equipment across South East Queensland for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, then worked on the recovery, including the Gold Coast hinterland. Our Sunshine Coast crews manage lane closures in Brisbane's northern suburbs week in, week out, and our event crews work public gatherings across South East Queensland.

Which depot you deal with

North of the Brisbane River and anywhere in Moreton Bay, your contact is Jesse at the Sunshine Coast head office. South of the river, in Logan, Ipswich or the Redlands, it is Richard at the Gold Coast depot. If you are not sure, call 1300 011 203 and the office will route you. Both depots quote travel honestly: we confirm start times for Brisbane jobs rather than quoting a response time we have not checked.

For a long program we keep a crew in Brisbane for its duration, which removes the daily travel question. For night works and emergency call-outs the network runs 24/7. See Sunshine Coast traffic control and Gold Coast traffic control for each depot.

What to send for a Brisbane quote

  • Site address and suburb, so we can assign the right depot and check road ownership
  • Whether the road is TMR, Brisbane City Council, or another council (we will confirm)
  • Dates, hours, day or night, and any peak-hour or event restrictions you already know about
  • The task: power works, excavation, crane lift, footpath closure, event
  • Whether you need a TMP or TGS designed, or already hold one
  • Site contact, principal contractor and any permit references

Common questions

Does ECTC have a depot in Brisbane?

No. Brisbane is serviced from our Sunshine Coast head office at Maroochydore for the north side and Moreton Bay, and from our Gold Coast depot for Logan, Ipswich and the south. We say so plainly because the alternative, claiming a local office we do not have, is how traffic control companies lose trust.

Who approves traffic control on the Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway or Gympie Road?

TMR's Metropolitan District, because they are state-controlled roads. Brisbane City Council approves works on its local streets under its road corridor permit process, and Moreton Bay, Logan, Ipswich and Redland councils approve theirs. Sites that touch both a TMR road and a council street need both approvals.

Can you do power and utility works traffic control in Brisbane's suburbs?

Yes. Utility and power work is most of what we do in Brisbane, including the Narangba power works in February 2025 and reactive powerline work for Ventia across Queensland. Short-notice utility jobs are quoted with a confirmed start time from the nearest depot.

How much lead time do you need for a Brisbane job?

A council street job with a standard scheme is staffed once the permit is in and the Area Manager has confirmed crew and start time. A TMR road or anything near signals needs a designed traffic guidance scheme and a TMR permit first. Brisbane City Council permits take longer than regional councils, so send the site details as early as you can.

Do you work in Ipswich and Logan?

Yes. Ipswich, Springfield, Goodna, Logan, Beenleigh and Springwood are serviced from our Gold Coast depot under Richard. Road ownership there splits between TMR's Metropolitan District and Ipswich or Logan City Council, and we confirm which applies when we scope the job.
